From the ad in the Arcadian newsletter:

"Sure, you've seen seen Life games before. A BASIC program was published in a magazine a year or two ago. It took 5 or 10 minutes per generation! Well, how about one generation per second? Yup!!! Jay Fenton, the guy who wrote Bally BASIC, Gunfight, Scribbling, Calculator and Gorf has revved-up you Z-80 processor to give you a full screen scan and a new LIFE generation each second! Put some LIFE in your Arcade (and give some spending money to Jay Fenton to keep him in "programming mode!"). Buy Life and Get Nuke the !$&! free!"

Load with :RUN, not :INPUT. Move the cursor with the joystick and pull the trigger to place cells. Press LIST to have the cells start reproducing.

The December 1978 issue of Byte magazine has many articles dedicated to Life. While none of these articles/programs are specific to the Bally Arcade/Astrocade, the manual for Life does directly lift quite a bit of material from that issue of the magazine.

Archived from tape in Brett Bilbrey's collection. Paul says, "It was clearly missing some lines when I processed it. I compared the code to the 2000 baud version and found that it was otherwise identical. I was able to repair the program by adding lines 3160-7010 from the 2000 baud version."
